After 20 years of being a flea market vendor I have
seen a lot of kids grow up right in front of my eyes. Many of
them come by from time to time to see me and say hello. Its
kinda neat to see how their lives turn out.
I also have made a lot of friends over the years. There a
lot of
really good people that sell and buy at the flea market. I
have
always had a lot of respect for anyone that works this
business.
Another benefit is all the business contacts you will make.
I have
got some really good prices on house painting, plumbing, car
repairs,
a/c service. Its from people I know I can trust. You know how
important
that is.
If you are a "people watcher" then you are going to really
enjoy being
a flea market vendor. I promise you will see a lot of sights.
Maybe you
like to chat with people like I do. If so then this is a good
fit for you.
In our market we have vendors who have been there for
several years and after a while we kinda become family. We look
out for one another and help each other when we can.
Now when it comes to selling it helps to have a thick skin.
;>) I still
believe even when you know the customer is wrong the old adage
"the
customer is always right" still holds true.
Always remember it is a flea market. People are looking and
want a deal.
Not all but some people enjoy haggling. They want to feel like
they got
the best price possible.
I see some dealers really "blow up" at the customers. Most
of the time
they don't last to long. Just keep in mind if you want to
gather honey
you don't kick over the beehive.
If someone makes an offer you don't want to accept ( and
some people will really low ball you ) just say...I appreciate
your offer but I can not sell
it for that price and then tell them the price you want. Simple
enough.
For the most part I don't have that many people try to work
me down. Probably because of what I sell and the great prices I
can offer. Don't get me wrong, I still make deals myself if
someone makes a big purchase.
The best advice I can offer is always give the people a smile,
a please
and thank-you. That doesn't cost anything. Also tell people
that you appreciate their business as we are all looking to be
appreciated.
So if you like to make money, deal with people and have some
laughs
then being a flea market vendor may be just right for you.
